Asimo is a robot made by Honda and currently working for IBM Japan. ASIMO works as a receptionist for IBM. He greets guests and shows them around the building. Asimo’s gets paid $150,000 a year (Yearly lease for ASIMO) Compared to the salary of a human receptionist – $35,000. To perform these duties, ASIMO has to be specially programmed to know the layout of the buildings and the appropriate way to greet visitors and answer questions.

What about You!

I recently saw a documentary about a lady that could not smile because of a birth defect. It cost her $70,000 to surgically have a smile created for her. It’s close to the real thing but it’s still not the real thing. Knowing the value of a rolex watch, how much would you pay for a fake rolex. Now try smiling. Easy? That’s priceless but an artificial one would cost you $70,000.

Try squeezing your hand, pick up your pen, throw your pen a varied speeds, pick your ear, play with your hand, do what you wish. Asimo couldn’t even do a tenth of what you are doing, yet it is paid a salary of $150,000 dollars. Asimo is a fake version of you. No where near the real thing.

You are priceless and Asimo is worthless compared to what you can do.

Yet it gets paid more than most!

Why?

People will only see you as you see yourself! My father always told me; “If you sell yourself cheap during the day, don’t expect to increase the price at night, for you will not find a buyer” You are fearfully & wonderfully made, you probably have been nurtured and cared for by loving parents who in their own rights are priceless. You don’t have to be programmed to know the layout of a building, greet visitors and answer questions. You are not made by man but uniquely created and fashioned to invent, innovate, discover, adapt and rule.

Dr, Micheal Denton clearly states – the cosmos (universe) is specially designed whole with life and mankind as its fundamental goal and purpose. Cosmos – The universe regarded as an orderly, harmonious whole. In simple words, The world has been created specifically for you!

Trees have a purpose, gold has a purpose, water has a purpose, salt has a purpose, even micro-organisms have a purpose. What more of you? You are the most intelligent being of all creation – One that wills thoughts to action, one with feelings, emotions, a soul and a mind to invent, learn, discover, communicate, build and rule.

The more physicist, biologists and scientist learn about the universe the more they realise it has been created custom made for human existence. For you are made with love in mind – Psalmist

If the world has been built with you in mind, why settle for anything less. Asimo is a product of your your neighbours invention and how much is it worth?

The question I need to ask you is this:

How do you see yourself?

The most valuable things in life are not things but people. You and I.

Celebrate and value yourself daily and everyone else will treat you the same way.

The key is to job hunt smarter not harder. There is no point spending all day applying to over 50 companies and get so frustrated at the end of the day because non of the employers have responded to your applications.

Don’t join the rat race. Many are called but few are chosen. Why join the many when you can be among the few chosen ones without joining the crowd.

A bird at hand is better than 10,000 in the forest. You can always use that one bird to catch the many thousands in the forest because birds of the same feather flock together.

The same applies to the job market. Why apply for the thousands of jobs on job boards when you can use a contact person to attract or be introduced to many other key contacts that could help you attain the job you are looking for.

For example, if you want to start a career in project management, start networking among your friends. There must be someone you know who knows a project manager. Build rapport and create a network ladder to get to your main contact person.

Once you have established contact, you can try using this appointment generating email:

Hi Steve,

Thanks for taking my call earlier today. In relation to our conversation, Sally mentioned you were the best person to speak to in regards to starting a career in project management.

Your reputation precedes you and I feel I have much to learn from you. This is clearly obvious just by looking at your outstanding record of proven achievement within the field of successfully managing global projects.

Please find attached a quick summary my resume / CV. It explains and details what I have been doing and how it can be of benefit to you and your department.

I am available for a meeting on either:

Tuesday the 9th of Jan

Wednesday the 17th of Jan

Thursday the 25th of Jan

Which day will suit you or do you have a more suitable time?

Kind regards

James Thomas

Midlife Career Change

Around 40 is often an age when people take stock of their lives and a niggling fear starts to creep in…….”If I haven’t achieved my dreams now maybe I just have to give up on them.”

However this attitude fails to recognise just how many wonderfully transferable skills you have built up through your life, through work, through life experiences and through formal and informal learning. These skills can be used in your new career, and if you have made a good career choice for yourself your skills will undoubtedly be highly valued in your new role.

Career change for people in the midst of their career is a specialty of this practice. You deserve to have work that fulfills you and provides you with more than a salary. To help you achieve this goal, career counselling is required. If you have a deep knowledge of yourself and have some ideas about what you want to do, then we will move straight into career counselling. However if you are feeling very confused, sometimes we use CareerWorks, an amazing holistic computer based career development program which analyses your responses to many questions and provides a comprehensive report that considers all aspects of you in relation to work. This provides the basis for our ongoing deep career counselling.

Once your future direction has been decided upon, career coaching can support you as you journey towards your new career. Career Coaching often makes the biggest difference to clients who make their career decision, but then feel alone as they try to implement their action plan. Changing careers after 50 is not easy but it is possible.  Over 50s know they have a lifetime of transferable skills and experience that can be applied in different contexts. The challenge is to convince others that those skills and experience are just what they need.  To make a successful transition it is important to realise that you are marketing a product and that product is YOU.  Like any marketing, the perception of the product must be carefully managed to give it the best possible chance of success, and you need to be certain that it is being marketed to the right people.

Clearly defined goals

Being really clear about your career goals is the first step.  Your reasons for changing careers after 50 are undoubtedly complex and usually indicate that you have not been completely happy in your previous occupation.  For this reason you need to make time to consider what you liked and disliked in previous work; the type of work, the type of people, the environment, the level of responsibility, the context and the purpose of the work.  Recognising your interests is important at this stage, because the things that interest you, not just in your working life but also in your personal life, often provide a strong clue to the sort of work you will enjoy.  Similarly, acknowledging your values may provide a key to the type of organisation you would like to work for, or perhaps the sort you would not be happy to work for.  This creates a list of criteria by which you can evaluate the suitability of work opportunities for you at this time of your life.

Carefully crafted resume

When you consider all the life and work experiences that have made you the person you are today, you realise how much you have to offer.  However you need to convince other people of this, and the best way to do so is through a resume that highlights your transferable skills in a powerful way, demonstrating what you have already achieved in your career.

To prepare this sort of resume (a “functional” resume) start with a list of the jobs you have done, and examples of advertised jobs that you find interesting.  You will notice that many of the job advertisements are seeking someone with generic skills such as Communication skills, Teamwork, or good Technology skills.  Create a possible list of these headings, then look through the jobs you have done and decide which of the headings will be most helpful in marketing you as a potential employee.  For each job you have had, write down some statements to show how you have demonstrated the chosen skills in your work.  Start each statement with a strong verb because this gives a much more powerful image of what you have achieved.  This exercise will show you just how many transferable skills you have and will provide the basis for your functional resume.  Suggestions about how to prepare a functional resume is readily available online at all the major job-seeking sites, but if you do not want your age to be an issue in a job application then be careful of the prominence you give to your years of education or your earlier jobs.

Networking

The people who know you and who believe in you are the most likely source of links to work that will be of interest to you.  Ensure that they know what sort of work you are looking for.  A large proportion of jobs are not advertised, yet people hear about them through the people they know.  Prepare a 15 – 30 second description of the work you are seeking and then start telling people, requesting that they keep this in mind if they hear of any work that may be of interest to you.  Networking is not about using people you barely know, but it is about making genuine connections with others who you believe would be happy to assist you.

However beware the well-meaning friend or family member who thinks they know what is best for you!  Despite your carefully considered description of the work that you are seeking they  may try to persuade you to apply for other types of work.  Evaluate each job opportunity according to the criteria that you decided on, and don’t be persuaded to apply randomly for work.

Attitudes

Younger employers may be inclined to discard applications from those who they perceive as being “old”.  Whilst you must be true to yourself, it is important that a contemporary attitude and willingness to learn is demonstrated in the tone of your resume and cover letter.

Resilience

It hurts when you are unsuccessful in obtaining a job that you want.  However that is the nature of the job-hunting game, and it is helpful if you can develop a level of resilience that enables you to move forward with no bitterness and no blame.  Candidates who have experienced many rejections often destroy their chances of obtaining work by exhibiting a negative and defeatist attitude.

The secret to successfully changing career direction after 50 is to believe strongly in the skills and experience that you have and what you can offer to an employer.  Market this belief with confidence and pride, and enjoy the next stage of your career.

Career is one big word. Sometimes, that word alone gives the whole idea of the plans of a particular person, of where he or she is heading.

This is could be one reason why people take their careers seriously. For one, college courses taken are very crucial as the years spent in the university can very well direct the course of a lifetime.

Some people make the big decision when they leave school. Some prepare for this in high school or as early as during the years of late childhood, when one becomes dreaming to become someone, a doctor or a lawyer perhaps.

Of course, there are those who realize their desired careers in their adulthood. In the middle of performing a career, they suddenly realize that they need a complete change of direction.

Changing Your Career

Changing career is not an easy thing to do, especially for one who has stayed on one field for quite a long time. This can sometimes occur because the individual suddenly had a change of heart. For some, they simply found their current work hostile to them.

For example, a person in the advertising world may found the pressures of the job too much to handle. A radical choice can lead him or her to quit job to do home-based business where one can easily manage the time for everything.

There are several factors that push people into changing their careers. For one, they do not get the right support in the working place. Possibly, people are too competitive that everyone is left on their own without much encouragement.

Another reason is the discrimination that could occur in many ways. This is not favorable for those on the other end of the line, especially if the organization does nothing with such events.

There are also work places where the opportunity to advance to higher positions is very limited. This hinders growth and can often leave the employee to a stump. As such, most people seek further studies and go to another field where they can best excel and display their prowess.

How to Successfully Change Your Career

The event of changing your career can be very nerve-wracking. It sounds like a drastic move. The other end of the tunnel seems so unsure and unstable.

This is a normal reaction, given that you could have gotten used to your present career that leaving it can also need some courage and determination.

Of course, there are people who have done this before and they made the right choice in following their heart and establishing themselves in the careers they really want. The change can be easily facilitated by just knowing how to do it.

1. Know Your Skills

Get a sheet of paper. Recall the past years that you have worked. Write down all the things you have been good at or the things you have enjoyed doing. Consider all the activities and experiences that will come to mind.

The things listed shall give you a good idea of your mechanical, intellectual and social skills. It shall also apprise you of what you really like and passionate about.

2. Get Help on Career Suggestions

Given the points above, evaluate the other careers that utilize your skills. It may also be more advisable to seek assistance in this aspect. There are counselors who can help you in the career exploration aspect.

3. Do Your Own Research

It also pays if you can do your research to get more career ideas. There are web sites that can be utilized to get ideas on what careers will best suit your skills. Classified ads are also helpful in this regard.

Also, once you have narrowed down on the choices, it pays to learn more about a particular selection. Make sure that you know how it works, be familiar with the other skills you need and acquaint with the institutions involved.

4. Get into a Career You Really Love and Enjoy

Passion is an important thing in this lifetime. This is the driving force to make you reach new heights. Thus, you must evaluate careers that are in line with your passions so you can love and enjoy what you do. This will help you realize the real you.

If you are unhappy about your current situation, unfulfilled at work and seriously frustrated but scared to make a change, then you have no one else to blame than yourself.

You don’t have to settle for less. Why settle for a lesser career when you can choose from a number of life fulfilling careers.

The problem with most people is they refuse to understand their worth and value in life.

It has costs scientists, engineers and physicist years of research, millions of pounds and probably some more time just to recreate an artificial and fully functional humanoid. Humanoids are a copy of you and I, and even up to now; an exact replica of man can still not be created.

Doesn’t that tell you something – You are priceless.

If the copy cost millions of pounds and years of research, what more of the real thing?

Now that we have established the fact that you are priceless; let us now figure out how you value yourself.

How you see yourself is how other people will see you. If you think you are hopeless, you will act, dress and look it – PERCEPTION can be reality – People will consider you as hopeless.

Since you are priceless, it is obvious that no company can afford you.

What do you now do since no company can afford to purchase you.

You need a job and you need to get paid. Well, lease your time, resources, energy, passion, talents, experience and achievements at a price you are happy to settle for.

Do you see yourself thinking I am worth more than I am being paid at the moment? You don’t need to think it, you are.

The value of your wages will always be based on necessity, how unique and scarce your resources, energy, passion, talents, experience, time and achievements are.

If you are doing what the average Joe can do, you will always have to settle for an average wage. Why pay you more when Mark, Sharon and Sally can do the same job and probably better. You are placing a lesser value on yourself and refusing to discover the real you and your true potentials.

On the other hand, if you know what your true talents are, capitalise on them, celebrate them daily by improving and exercising them and allowing your natural energisers (PASSION) to engage your daily activities, then you will soon be the envy of all and highly demanded by many.

“A man’s gift will make way for him and bring him before Kings and Queen” – Wisdom of Solomon.

This is why the David and Goliath story never seizes to amaze me.

During the war between the Philistines and the Israelites, many, many years ago. There was a giant called Goliath who terrorised and insulted the Israel’s army because of his gigantic size and physical attributes. He constantly challenged Israel’s army to a 1 on 1 combat and rebuked them for responding cowardly.

Israel’s army saw Goliath and thought, he is so big, tall, heavy and strong, he will crush us to death

Meanwhile, there was a boy who tendered his father’s flock of sheep as a shepherd. He was a gifted, talented and powerful sling thrower with precision and accuracy. His name was David, a young and energetic boy. A boy of strong faith in his believes, principles and purpose.

Question: How strong is your faith in yourself, abilities, believes and principles?

When David heard of this giant that defied the army of Israel, he refused to settle for less and decided to make a change.

Something you need to do! He accepted Goliath’s challenge.

David saw Goliath and thought, he is so big and tall, I can’t miss, so heavy and strong, he will fall hard, head first and die.

Trusting in his own abilities and believes, he took only his sling and a few stones (talents), with no armour (what every one wears – the average Joe) and to everyone’s amazement, struck the giant in the head and killed Goliath with only one stone from a single shot from his sling.

His reward: Great riches, a place in the palace with the King, favour with the King’s son and the hand of the King’s daughter in marriage.

How cool is that!

Now! Get up and make a change in your career today.

2 years ago, we re-packaged our winning formula for helping people attain the career of their dreams and doubling their salaries. The results have been phenomenal with 100% success rate and thousands of people attaining the right career change and getting job of their dreams.

However, before we tell you what this winning formula is, let us establish the key reasons why people develop the need for a career change:

There are two deciding factors for this:

External Factors

A lot people develop the need for a career change due to a number of external factors and these can be related to their working relationships with fellow colleagues, an inability to grow within the company, poor location, an unpleasant environment or family related reasons.

When any of these factors become the need for a career change, there are questions you need to ask yourself before making that life changing decision to change your career.

“Am I sure the problem does not lie with me?”

1. How well do you relate with people? – Would you say your attitude welcomes or drives people from you? If the problem has got to do with your attitude, you’ll have the same problem elsewhere.

2. How competitive are you within your current role? – Employers value employees that help grow their business and will give anything to retain that person. Are you exercising your natural talents at work daily? Your natural energisers (PASSION)! Do you have any for your current job?

3. Location, environment and family related reasons are also external factors that puts us in a position to make life changing choices, but they must never be at the risk of loosing our identity. what makes us whole and fulfilled in life.

Internal Factors

These factors are probably the most valid reason when it comes to experiencing the need for a career change.

It’s battle between what your conscience is telling you, your dreams, hopes, aspiration and your current situation. The need for a better life, a more fulfilling career, the ability to exercise your natural talents and engage your passion.

A Combination of External & Internal Factors

On the other hand, it could be a combination of both external and internal factors, which can be very dangerous because it can lead to a life of frustration, despair. Inevitably leading to envy and jealousy for the progress of other people.

When this happens, you could find yourself wanting the success of others and dedicating your life to getting it.

This is a road that will always lead to a dead end.

Little progress is made when you try to be someone else. Most times, your weaknesses become more evident and people begin to see an incompetent employee rather than a competent one.

So Why Do You Need A Career Change

This is what it’s all about. Finding the answer to your ‘WHY’s in life.

As Stephen Covey once mentioned at one of his seminars, if you can find the answers to your ‘WHY’s in life, you can handle any ‘WHAT’, ‘WHERE’, ‘WHEN’, ‘HOW’ or ‘IF’.

Why do you need a career change?

If your answer to this question falls under the need to attain career fulfilment, enjoy going to work and getting paid a fortune for what you do so naturally, then our successfully tried and tested, easy to apply principles can help you make the right career change today.

Here is a quick summary of the 7 easy to understand and apply principles to changing your career and attaining the job of your dreams:

Step 1: The 12 Laws of Discovering Your Purpose

- Give a dog a bone and you’ve got it working, give a dog your month’s wage in cash and you’ll be working extra hours to make the money back.

“Where purpose is unknown, abuse is inevitable”- Myles Munroe

Step 2: Creating Your Unique Selling Point

People will only see you as you see yourself. When you pay to watch a play or a movie, you are not just there to see the actors but to enjoy the characters they portray – 100% of our candidates have potentially doubled their salaries and gotten the career of their dreams because our eWorkshop has taught them how to create their Unique Selling Point (USP).

Step 3: Knowing What The Employer Wants

A doctor never tries to treat a patient without trying to first diagnose the cause of illness. Diagnose the Employer – Joyce attained two great job offers because of this.

This eWorkshop will teach you how to do this in relation to your chosen career.

Step 4: Job Hunting Smarter Not Harder

70% of jobs are never advertised and 1 in 4 jobs are duplicated online at least 5 times out of the 30% of jobs actually advertised. You need to be looking for the 70% of jobs. How you do this requires thinking outside the box.

Step 5: How To Rebrand & Remarket Yourself To Win

80% of employers overlook key details on your Resume / CV and to every job advertised nationally, there are 1000 applicants to each job. If your Resume / CV does not stand out, you might as well stay out. Our sample Resume and CV templates got Joyce a job of a life time. Triple her previous salary.

Step 6: How To Network From The Top Down

If Bill Gates was your best friend, would you need to contact HR? The internet has made networking as easy as a piece of cake. James has been using this concept since he graduated. Today, he is an Investment Banker for one of the world’s Investment banking companies.

Step 7: Selling Without Selling At Interviews

No one likes to be sold to. We like to feel like we are buying for our own reasons. When you go fishing and you want to catch a fish, do you bait the hook with your favourite food or with the favourite food of the fish. Bait the hook according to the fish type. Maria applied this principle and she is earning double her previous salary.
